2007 VIRGIN MOBILE CUP - YAMAHA YZF R6 SERIES DETAILS

The 2007 Virgin Mobile Cup will once again prove to be an invaluable asset to the most competitive domestic motorcycle championship in the world; the British Superbike Championship.

The Virgin Mobile Cup has without doubt evolved into one of the most successful breeding grounds for young riders. The amazing platform was put together by Virgin Mobile and Yamaha in 2003, and has enabled the UK's brightest young racers to showcase their talent and get a fast track to the premier league of British motor sport. Graduates of the Cup include Virgin Mobile Yamaha's Tommy Hill and Billy McConnell, plus 2006 British Supersport Champion Cal Crutchlow.

Not content to sit back on the spoils of success, the 2007 Virgin Mobile Cup will be bigger and better than ever. Rob McElnea, the man behind the series, has once again had the foresight to plan for the next stage of development. Rob is now in a position to offer the most cost effective, most exciting, and the most guaranteed way for young riders to get noticed in a totally even and fair racing environment.

Working closely with Virgin Mobile and Yamaha, the cost for the championship has been kept to a minimum with a great deal of added value, including full race clothing courtesy of Lloyd Lifestyle, plus two non-championship races to take place over the weekend of the British round of the World MotoGP Championship.

Perhaps the most important addition to the series for 2007, is the appointment of ex-Grand Prix star and 3 times British Superbike Champion, Niall Mackenzie. Niall will take the lead role as the ambassador for the Virgin Mobile Cup in 2007. Niall's valuable experience will be maximised as new plans are put together to get the best out of all these young riders.

Niall Mackenzie: “I am really looking forward to getting involved with the development of these young riders. Rob and I have been close for many years and I know he is very passionate about the Virgin Mobile Cup and the success he has had with it. I hope I can bring along some of my experiences and hopefully get a lot closer to these young riders.”

Rob McElnea: “What a fantastic coup! For Niall to come along and join our team is a breath of fresh air. He is one of Britain's finest and has a wealth of experience to offer our young riders. This is a part of the cup that has been missing, with the race day commitments getting more intense I have found it hard to get close to my Cup riders. Niall will take on that job with great enthusiasm and everyone in the team will benefit from that. I am really proud to be able to have Niall on our team.”
