On the day that a Spanish rider was clinching the British Superbike Championship, Oxfordshire schoolboy racer Bradley Smith flew the flag for Great Britain by winning fifth round of the CEV Buckler 125cc Spanish Championship in Albecete, Spain on Sunday 9 October.
The 14 year old, who is a member of the MotoGP Academy Team is the first British rider to win a round of the highly competitive domestic series which is recognised as one of the vital career paths for future World Championship riders.
Smith, from Wheatley in Oxfordshire, dominated the race after starting from the front row of the grid riding a 125cc Honda.
He was selected, earlier this year, to join the MotoGP Academy, which is based in Spain, and which enters the team members into Spanish Championship.
The Academy, which has six members, all teenagers, was founded by Dorna, the rights holders and organisers of the MotoGP World Championship, to give promising young riders tuition, help and advice on developing their careers, and preparing them for World Championship racing.
Smith will compete in the final two rounds of this highly competitive national Championship which has already produced World Champions including Dani Pedrosa, the winner of both 125cc and 250cc World titles.
