LAVILLA TO RECEIVE THE BENNETTS BRITISH SUPERBIKE CROWN - TUESDAY 1 NOVEMBER

Gregorio Lavilla will celebrate his title winning success in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship on Tuesday lunchtime (13.00) when he takes centre stage at the International Motorcycle Show to receive his trophy.

The Airwaves Ducati rider will be crowned in front of his massed fans on the Show's main stage at the National Exhibition Centre while around him series commentators Fred Clarke and Larry Carter will re-live the highlights of a terrific racing season.

The highs and lows of a compelling championship will be reflected as Lavilla, with a late determined flourish, winning six of the final eleven races, and taking second place in the others, overtook the two HM Plant Honda riders, Ryuichi Kiyonari and Michael Rutter, to claim the first major trophy of his career.

Joining Lavilla on stage to receive their trophies will be most of the men he beat, as well as the other champions from the 13 round series that captivated not only record attendances at the country's leading circuits, but also thrilled millions of armchair viewers who followed the fortunes of the various riders by the extensive television coverage.

James Buckingham, the young Devonian proved to be the dominant force in the category for independent riders - British Superbike Cup - and is hoping that his title success will pave the way for a factory backed ride in 2006.

Leon Camier won four races to stay ahead of the pack and take the Metabo British Supersport Championship crown, ahead of Craig Jones, while Gary Johnson won the British Supersport Cup

Christian Elkin retained his British 125cc title for a second year, finishing just ahead of James Westmoreland, whose consolation was to win the ACU Academy Cup.

Lee Jackson beat off strong challenges from both Paul Young and Adrian Coates with consistent riding to take the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship, while Peter Ward was the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Cup winner.

The winner of the Steve Hislop Memorial Trophy - awarded to the young rider showing the most talent and commitment during the season - will be announced on the day.
