During the Free Practice session, Scottish rider Doug Cowie suffered a technical failure to his motorcycle and crashed heavily at Park Corner. He sustained serious injuries to his head and chest and broke his right thigh (femur).
He was initially treated trackside and at the circuit medical centre by the MCRCB-Events Medical Team, before being air-lifted by the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary.
He has had a scan of the brain and the results indicate no major injury, as well as orthopaedic surgery to fix his leg injury.
His overnight condition is serious, but stable on the Intensive Care Unit, and it his hoped that he will be woken up and taken off of the ventilator later today.
Further information will be released when available.
